Thank you for writing these stories. As a Guatemalan immigrant in Poland, reading them is a way to reconnect with where I came from, and the reminder of how Guatemala, despite corruption in the government, like any other country, is full of layers – not a polarised reality.
Thank you for you comment. One wonders how you made it to Poland. I am American but have lived in Guatemala for more than ten years. What I marvel at is the spirit of many of the people, how they manage to rise to the top with virtually no support from their government. Maybe it is that spirit that made it possible for you to get to Poland.
That’s a long time, wow. I’ve been here for about five years, and I’m still transitioning haha, how about you? And it just happens that my husband is Polish, so we decided to live here.
Good choice to live in Poland. Sadly, I don’t see things getting much better in Guatemala in the near future. I am actually thinking about moving to Spain where I have family and two kids, whose education I have sponsored, are now in university.
I get your frustration, the situation in Guatemala is so complex that big improvements in little time seem not plausible unfortunately. Spain looks like a paradise, what I’m missing in Poland is the almost perfect weather you can find in the central region where I grew up, and I guess in Spain there are regions with great weather as well, plus it’s great that you’d be closer to family and to the kids you’ve supported :)

What a wonderful story of miracles (and God) at work in Juan's life.
